Perry was born on the 25th of July 1968 in Chicago in Illinois. She was the daughter of Laurie Metcalf Perry and Jeff Perry. The character Jackie Harris was played by her mom in both of her two appearances on Roseanne. She was not allowed to begin acting in front of her family until an adulthood stage, because they were concerned about the anxiety it could result in. Perry was a shy teenager and did not act. She began acting in the year 2000 at Northwestern University to gain friends when she moved from Boston University. Perry moved to New York, where she landed small roles in series such as Law & Order: Criminal Intent. Home sickiness led Perry back to California, where theater jobs were readily available. She appeared on Broadway as a part of The Other Place with her mother in 2013. She appeared in Eugene O'Neill's Pulitzer Prize winner Anna Christie as well as Kevin McKidd. This was presented at West Los Angeles' Odyssey Theatre Ensemble. Perry appeared in 9 episodes on ABC's drama The Family during 2016. Her father played her character in her role on the ABC Drama Scandal. In the same year, her character was cast a younger character of Mary Cooper (Sheldon Cooper's mother) on Young Sheldon, a spin-off of the CBS sitcom The Big Bang Theory again as a teen model of the mother's role. Despite the fact that she has a connection with her family to the character she received the role through an audition.
